In light of returning to campus this week, we held a series of meetings to reassess tasks, essentials, and overall team workflow, with the goal of clarifying what is needed from each of us as team members this term. As I wrote in a previous blog post, my first term was largely about navigating different programs and learning how to use them. Overall, a foundational learning term focused on devices and systems. I primarily worked on the Leganto project before leaving, gaining familiarity with how it functions and how it might be used in the future as part of Carleton College’s implementation. I also researched how other schools use Leganto and consistently approached the platform from a student accessibility perspective.
Looking ahead to the coming weeks and based on the meetings that took place—both as a full team and in smaller groups with my supervisor, Sarah, and the Leganto team—this is the general direction of what will follow.
We will meet as a full team next week to discuss reading material that individual team members found interesting (I will be presenting the following Thursday). We will also work to determine a meeting time that is most convenient for everyone, with Thursday being the preferred option if possible.
In my meeting with Sarah Calhoun, my supervisor for the DSI intern position, we revisited the goals I initially set in the fall and adjusted them to better align with this upcoming term, as well as the experience and knowledge I have gained in the role. One of my new assignments is to dedicate time to exploring newer AI tools, specifically focusing on their potential use at Carleton College through Creative Commons. Over the next few days, I will evaluate these tools, note initial impressions and use cases, and report my findings both here and to Sarah. This exploration will focus on how these tools might realistically fit into the work of interns, students, and faculty, bringing the broader conversation back to practical application.
Finally, in our Leganto group meeting on Friday morning, we reviewed the project and its updated expectations. The goal of this project is to produce a follow-up review of the program by April. Another DSI member and I will be splitting tasks across five Carleton course Moodle pages, starting with courses that do not currently use Leganto and implementing its features into the course overview.
