Hello everyone! My name is Mai Tran. I am from Vietnam, my home is in San Jose, California, and am currently studying at Carleton College in Minnesota. I’m a junior double majoring in Chinese and Computer Science, and minoring in Digital Arts and Humanities (DGAH).
I love to work on software development projects that aim to solve a real need among less visible communities. These projects taught me to identify problems in my daily life that may also affect others, and to think critically about developing solutions to address them.
I learned about this job Digital Scholarship Intern (DSI) – Back-end Web Development from meeting the affiliated faculty of the DGAH minor. I’m drawn to this internship because it combines technical development with meaningful, scholarly impact. I would love to learn how to integrate structure and creativity to create accessible, well-designed digital scholarship projects. This job is also an opportunity to refine my technical skills and develop my interpersonal skills in a professional setting. I’m excited to support projects that enhance public engagement with academic work.
One interesting resource I encountered during my DSI training is the Programming Historian lessons. They provide useful information on how to use digital tools and techniques of Computer Science and Data Science and apply them to scholars’ and students’ own research. I look forward to deepen my understanding of data modeling and database design, explore privacy and security challenges in server environments, and gain hands-on experience building custom programs that enhance digital scholarship projects.
