Jason’s intro blog

Hello! My name is Jason. I am a sophomore and I am excited to start my role as a Digital Scholarship Intern (DSI), focusing on front-end development. I was drawn to this job because I enjoy the creative and technical challenges of building digital projects that others can easily use and learn from. Front-end development is where design and functionality meet, and I am looking forward to the process of translating ideas into interactive, accessible websites and applications.

I have realized the importance of accessibility. I practiced adding alt text and captions to images and thought about how much this small step can open the door for people who might otherwise be left out of digital experiences. As I work on front-end projects this year, I want to keep accessibility in mind from the very beginning, so that the tools we create are truly usable for everyone.

Another highlight was reflecting on Miriam Posner’s discussion of data visualization. She emphasized that design choices always shape how information is perceived. Every layout, font, and color scheme communicates something beyond just the content. It reminded me that building websites isn’t only about coding—it’s about storytelling and responsibility.

Looking ahead, I’m excited to dive deeper into web frameworks, learn new development tools, and collaborate with others on projects that make scholarship more visible and impactful. This role is not only a chance to sharpen my skills but also an opportunity to contribute to the broader Carleton community.
