Midterm Reflection!

This term was off to a slightly rocky start–with COVID numbers on the rise and Minnesota’s gloomy winter upon us, the first two to three weeks honestly felt like a wash. However, things are better now yayayay!

Martin and Evan (the other interns) and I have been meeting regularly to work on our group project: a sustainability audit on the Carleton Guide to Medieval Rome. I think the three of us weren’t quite sure what we were in for until we started finding multiple random pieces/entry points to CGMR that were lost in the ether over the years. It’s been interesting to see how this project has evolved over the years, especially with COVID when the Medieval Rome study abroad program was cancelled. Seems to me like a great inflection point for CGMR, we have a minute to take a step back and make sure things are in order before moving forward with this project. Ultimately, the three of us are hoping to get a good understanding and create an in depth readme for the next interns who work on CGMR, so that they can spend less time in the exploratory phase like we are.

Individually, I’m working on small Omeka bootstrap fixes. It’s been fun sort of hacking away and seeing what that does to the site. The biggest challenge for me has been getting the Git workflow down. This whole intro to web dev process has been a learning curve for me, but it’s stuff like Git that makes me think people who do this long term are a l i e n s.
